The EmilyAnn Receives Grant from the Meadows Foundation The EmilyAnn Theatre is proud to announce that the Meadows Foundation has awarded the theatre a $46,000 grant towards the purchase of six acres of land located between the current site and FM 2325. Owning this land will protect the theatre from nearby commercial development and allow the EmilyAnn to begin pursuing projects to expand its existing services. "It has long been our dream to add this parcel of land to the EmilyAnn's current site. Doubling our size will entail a lot of work! But we're ready to get started." says Executive Director, Ann Rolling. The theatre signed the papers for the purchase of the property in late October of this year and has already begun some initial work on the site. Much of the land will be set aside as green space, and the Hays County Master Naturalists have begun the establishment of a native grasses restoration area. Visitors to the Trail of Lights will be able to tour portions of the new property. In addition to the grant from the Meadows Foundation, the purchase of the land was made possible by matching grants from the PSH Foundation and the Burdine Johnson Foundation as well as many individual contributions. While these grants cover the purchase price of the land, the EmilyAnn is still raising funds for development of the site. Planned projects include an expanded picnic area and walking trails, and better access to the Veterans Memorial Plaza including ADA compliant parking. "We'd love for you to come 'stake your claim' and be a part of the future of the EmilyAnn," say Ann Rolling. The Meadows Foundation is a private philanthropic foundation established in 1948 by Algur H. and Virginia Meadows to benefit the people of Texas. Located in Dallas, the Foundation's mission is to assist the people and institutions of Texas, improve the quality and circumstances of life for themselves and future generations. Since its inception, the Foundation has given more than $600 million in grants and direct charitable expenditures. Foundation grants support work in the fields of arts and culture, civic and public affairs, education, health, and human services. Thank you WHS Class of 1998! The Wimberley High School Class of 1998 recently met for their 10-year reunion. This group has strong ties to the EmilyAnn Theatre. Emily Rolling was one of their classmates and many class members were instrumental in helping to establish the theatre. When they were seniors, the class donated the beautiful gate that serves as an entry to the seating area of the main stage. This year, the class continued its tradition of philanthropy, making a $500 donation to the EmilyAnn. Thank you class of 1998! Special Message from Ann Rolling, Executive Director - November 2008 November is an exciting month at the EmilyAnn. As groups and families come by to decorate their Trail of Lights sites, we get to reconnect with many friends and meet lots of new folks. We're so excited about all the exhibits this year. You'll see many old favorites and lots of new creations too! As your family prepares for the true meaning of the season we hope you'll come visit us at Trail of Lights. Gathering around the Yule Log with family and friends is a wonderful way to celebrate. Many thanks to all of our Yule Log hosts and entertainers and exhibitors. Do you have a few extra hours a week or even a month? Come on down to the Village Store and support the EmilyAnn while getting to know a great group of people who have a lot of fun working together. Volunteer any day of the week (Tues. - Sat.) and earn up to $15.00 per hour for the EmilyAnn. It's easy. Just show up at the Village Store, located at 300 River Road, and tell one of the volunteers working that you would like to volunteer on behalf of the EmilyAnn Theatre. Did you know, last year, the Village Store contributed almost $110,000 to the 7 local nonprofit organizations it supports. Proceeds from the Village Store make up a significant part of the EmilyAnn's budget. Thank you Village Store for the wonderful service your staff and volunteers provide to our community!
